I forgot that we had I.S.T. on Dominica after I got back from St. Lucia. Here is some video from our meeting at the Layou Hotel, including Ode to a Christophene.

Levera Beach Grenada. A September 22, 2021 search turned up this article in the NY Times, WINTER IN THE SUN, which talked about many of the countries featured in this blog.

The New York Times article featured this blurb about Grenada: Overview Grenada is continuing its drive to develop natural and historical attractions. At the Levera National Park and Bird Sanctuary, for example, better roads, a visitors’ center and bird watching lookouts are planned.

20 September

Yesterday was Maryann’s birthday. She is my Associate Peace Corps Director in charge of Dominican volunteers. Her boss is Country Director of the East Caribbean Dick Pyle whose office is on St. Lucia.

Last year Brad and I were going to hold a party for her but it fell through because of the effects of the typhoid shots for EC56ers. We finally celebrated her birthday at “our” New Year’s Eve party.

She is currently out of the country on vacation in the US. I hope she is relaxing from her usual workaholic pace. Since she left one of the new EC57 volunteers left.

I put a birthday card in her mail box before she left, and it seems that she got it before she left since it was gone the next morning. Yolanda was thinking up an idea for a party when she returns. I hope Yolanda will still be here for that.

She quit her job because of problems with her colleague. She hopes to get reassigned to another assignment here or to one in Grenada. I hope she finishes her third PC service.

13 September

It’s Friday the 13th but only Francis noticed. None of the Dominicans said anything about it. I don’t think it’s part of their culture. I remember vaguely a Caribbean national remarking about the U.S. superstition of the number thirteen. It was said in a way that made me think it was nothing to them.

It’s really nothing to me (except I enjoy those comical Jason movies). I hope it stays that way today.

In eight minutes or so I plan on going to the post office. Just like at this time last year I hope to get a package containing the new Prince album, “Diamonds and Pearls.” I asked my sister Ann Marie to send it to me. The next time I write to her I’ll have to send a check so she doesn’t forget. She never got me “Raspberry Beret” by the Hoodoo Gurus [correction, I should have written Hindu Love Gods]. I haven’t heard from her since June. I wonder how she’s doing without her son.

When I went home to the United States, I purchase an 8mm camcorder to record experiences in the Caribbean. Most of the videos are bad or boring, but it’s nice to those faces from 30 years ago and sometimes the video quality is pretty good considering I only got them digitized in 2020 and one of them in 2015.
