Molly Barber on L’Escalier Tete Chien Feb 92
Also known as the snake’s staircase – TĂȘte Chien being the local name for the boa constrictor because its head looks like that of a dog. Geographically, this rock formation is called a dyke. It resembles a gigantic petrified serpent crawling up the hillside from the ocean with its back crystallized into wedges of rock which forms a natural staircase. The ‘espalier’ features prominently in Carib myth and folklore.
You can see much better recent footage of this formation on youtube
Getting too close to the water can be dangerous as two people were pulled out into the Atlantic by big waves crashing on the lower part of the stairs.
