When Brad returned from the post office, on Wednesday, it was with a big envelope containing my application to Harvard Law School. I immediately wrote letters asking for two recommendations and college certification the next day and mailed them on Friday to Mr. Cackovic, Dr. Guerriero, and Dickinson College.
Sickness which may have resulted from a second dose of typhoid shots cancelled the party for which Brad and I ordered and bought a cake, bought a case of soft drinks, and cleaned the whole apartment. Mrs. Rook (sic), the recently arrived VSO from Scotland who will teach English at Portsmouth Secondary School, came and shared some beer, snacks, and cake.
Brad and I took a Saturday hike south along the coast to the Portsmouth Beach Hotel and Coconut Beach Hotel. We saw students, Mr. James, Rosemary, the medical student, and an interracial couple of a Dominican and German who told us about a barbecue they have every Sunday. They were cleaning fish which they prepare for and sell to the medical students on Sunday. The walk was great, the area beautiful, and the view picturesque.

Sunday we were without power for most of the day and had to be careful not to let the cold escape from the refrigerator. Brad attended the Baptist church but could hardly understand the screaming preacher.
We both watched the participants cross the finish line at the Milo 10K race. We saw Lorrie Pratt who was there to help as a Red Cross volunteer. Peter won in the over-50 category and did not stay overnight as he said he would. Many teachers and students from school were also there.
On Tuesday I had a hamburger I bought at the Douglas Guest House. The only problem was that I ordered it medium well and slightly cold in the middle. It was a big whole wheat bun with greens. It was good and filling.
I’ve finally boiled plantain and it turned out okay but was bland. The rice I boiled today was soggy and bland.

I just had some french toast for my Sunday breakfast. It was pretty good. At least it was something to put syrup on. I probably should have let it soak longer and brown more. I also added some spice. I could not find cinnamon but at market they sold something that looked like dry bark from a tree and smelled like cinnamon. So I used that as a little flavoring.
Yesterday Brad and I walked up a paved road on the lower part of Morne Aux Diables. It was very steep at some points. We also checked out the progress at the Cruise Ship Berth and swam at the Purple Turtle. We then had a highlight of watching a bad television show with Elliot Gould in an Emergency Room on Lifetime. We were able to do this because we bought a drink at Mames Restaurant.
On Friday Alan McLawrence visited us to ask us questions about his application to a nautical school.
